A Susan E. Waskow Community Event: A Weekend of Torah

Spend March 28-30 with our sofer-in-residence Neil Yerman for this year's Susan E. Waskow Community-Wide Event. 

Friday March 28 at 6:00 p.m.
Catered dinner featuring biblical-themed foods, challah made with the seven species and an informal Q&A with Neil. Register for the dinner so we order an appropriate amount of food.

Friday March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Scrolls will be laid out for inspection and review. Discuss "Torah as a Time Traveler," followed by a brief Friday night service.

Saturday March 29 at 10:30 a.m.
An intergenerational brunch-and-learn ("As you are at seven, so you are at seventy"), including Evolution of the Hebrew Alphabet, rules for scribes, and a brief Saturday morning service.

Saturday March 29 at 7:00 p.m.
Potluck dinner and a brief Havdalah Service discussing Jewish Mysticism and Torah.

Sunday March 30 at 9:00 a.m.
Religious school children (and their parents) will have the opportunity to clean one of our scrolls as part of the repair process. Neil will speak with the school about the Torah and the work and tools of a sofer.  The students will also become Torah detectives, seeking clues about how old our scrolls are, where they came from, and who might have written them.

Sunday March 30 at noon
Congregants, Kehilofters, and others are invited to take their turn cleaning our scroll and to learn and practice calligraphy with Neil. A pizza lunch will be available for $2/slice.
