Hebrew Students will be introduced to the alef-bet. Students will become familiar with Hebrew letters through learning stories about each letter and its shape, coloring, sculpting letters with clay and/or play dough, forming letters with edible materials, and using blocks, cookie cutters, and puzzles Book: Sam the Detective Reading Readiness
Holidays Students will be introduced to all the major Jewish Holidays and will learn about the history and tradition of each through story, arts and craft, music, and food activities. Bible Teacher will read stories from the Bible. Class discussion about Bible stories, workbook activities relating to Bible stories Books: My Siddur by Deborah Uchill Miller, The Bible from Alef to Tav by Penina Adelman, Bible Work and Play by Joyce Fischman
Prayer Students will learn Sh’ma, motzi, bracha for Shabbat candles, and bracha for wine. Students will recite blessings each week in class before snack. Students will sing Shabbat shalom each week in class. Students will join Religious School for weekly prayers with rabbi in the sanctuary at the start of each session.
Values Students will learn about Tikkun olam. Weekly homework will include doing an act of kindness and telling the other students about it during snack time. Class discussions will focus on values such as being kind to people and animals and taking care of the earth. Books: Jewish Vales from Alef to Tav, Lively Legends – Jewish Values
Israel Students will be learn about Israel through Israel Independence Day Celebration Books: Sammy Spider’s First Trip to Israel, My Land of Israel by Elizabeth Zinbarg Nover
God and Judaism Students learn about God and Judaism through poems, activities, and discussion Books: Let’s Discover God by Susan Van Dugan
