Kehilat Shalom Hebrew High

Hebrew High Activities

The new year for Hebrew High School is about to begin. Classes start on October 10 for Wednesday's 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students, and on Thursday, October 11 for 11th and 12th grade students. Classes are from 5:00 - 7:00 and begin with pizza that can be purchased by the slice.

Hebrew High school has been designed to allow the students to attend whenever they can. If your child can't start class until the end of November due to their sports or marching band schedule, that's okay. The flexible curriculum allows each student to fit their Jewish education into schedule.

Classes will be taught by both Rabbi Susan and congregant volunteers. Rabbi Susan will teach both junior and senior sessions. Congregant Susan Waskow is returning to teach on Wednesday evenings. Thank you, Susan! At the students request, the Hebrew High School committee is seeking congregant volunteers to lead discussions on Thursday evenings. We would like to thank Judy Forster and Susan Krisiloff for stepping up to the plate and volunteering to lead a medical ethics discussion with the 11th - 12th grade students for one hour each month. Thank you, Judy and Susan! We hope to be able to organize an adult education class on Thursday evening once a month that will be comprised on the 11th-12th grade students and adult members of the congregation. If you're interested in this, please let me know.

Can you lead a discussion with our synagogue's youth once a month or once a year? I bet you can! When I asked them if we should hire a teacher to come in one hour a week or ask congregants to volunteer to lead a discussion, all the teens chose our congregants. Please let me know if you are able to lead a discussion or work on a project with our eager teen students. Your participation is very much appreciated.

Hebrew High School offers a wonderful opportunity for post B'nai Mitzvah teens to continue learning about Judaism in a comfortable, friendly and fun environment. The once weekly program (but ok to come when you can) provides a forum for spirited discussions and lectures about topics relevant to teenagers and their interests.

It is not too late to register for this year. Try it, you'll like it. Plus you have nothing to loose - the first year is free!

TUITION IS FREE FOR 8th GRADE STUDENTS and only $180/year for those in grades 9-12.

Please contact the Hebrew High Committee chair, Karen Fridkis, at kfridkis@comcast.net if you have any suggestions or questions or can volunteer to lead a discussion or project.

Shalom,
Karen Fridkis
